Was oblivious to this, despite it being somewhere I either cycle or drive past daily.
Taylor Wimpey West Scotland and our development partner CALA Homes have secured detailed planning permission to create a development of 645 new homes at Maidenhill, Newton Mearns. [...] It forms part of a wider masterplan that will include around 1,100 residential homes
There's going to be a new slip on to the Southern Orbital, but if residents aren't getting on the motorway or heading to East Kilbride it looks like they're all going to be using the road along the side of the India Platform. I imagine that's going to be a busy little junction.
The site says that there will be "a provision for a sustainable transport strategy" but I'm not sure what that actually means for cycling. From the picture on the front page of the East Ren Supplementary Planning Guidance for Maidenhill, I can hazard a guess...
Anybody know anything more about this development? Again, from the East Ren documents (and they are a few years old) it looks like it's also eventually going to extend to the north of the A77 and there's talk of linking infrastructure up... but as shared-use from what I see.
If it's the development I'm thinking about, they're actually building a new railway station (on the Glasgow-Neilston line), so for once there might be a meaningful contribution towards non-car transport methods.

There are another two big developments happening across in Barrhead. It's the Barrhead South one which is getting the new rail station. Newton Mearns folk don't schlep about on public transport... ;)
